Notifications
tavrn tells you about mentions and direct messages with a short message on screen, a soft sound and an entry under the bell next to your settings. Your settings are saved on your home node and apply on all your devices.
How much you hear from rooms
Section titled “How much you hear from rooms”Under Settings → Notifications → Rooms notify me about you choose All messages, Only mentions or Nothing. Direct messages always notify you, unless you choose nothing for them.
Every room, channel and conversation can override this in its menu: pick a level, or mute it for 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours or until you turn it back on. The settings page lists every room and channel with its own setting.

Mentions
Section titled “Mentions”You are mentioned when someone writes @yourname, a role you have, or @everyone. Mentions show a red count on
the room and always notify you, even when a room is set to mentions only.
Desktop notifications
Section titled “Desktop notifications”Turn on Desktop notifications when tavrn is in the background. Your browser asks for permission once. The text of encrypted messages never appears in a notification. The desktop app shows system notifications instead, also for incoming calls, while its window is not in front.

Push notifications
Section titled “Push notifications”Push notifications reach you while tavrn is closed. Turn them on under Settings → Notifications → Push notifications in each browser or installed app separately, and send a test push to check that they arrive. Message pushes only arrive while no tavrn tab is open on that device; incoming calls also ring through a push while a tab is open in the background. The Android app receives pushes through UnifiedPush, without Google services.
- Pushes for encrypted conversations only name the conversation and the sender. For unencrypted channels you can choose to see the beginning of the message.
- On iPhone and iPad, add tavrn to the home screen first (Share, then Add to Home Screen) and open it from there.
- Rooms on other nodes push only for mentions, direct messages and calls.
If nothing arrives, check that notifications are allowed for the site in your browser settings, and that your home node offers push notifications at all.
